The digits, 4664 (four, double six, six four) hold a significant meaning, and define a part of Africa’s history, particularly South Africa’s. These are the combination of prison numbers (466) and date of incarceration (64), for one of African’s greatest living icon, Nelson Mandela. He was imprisoned for 27 years in Robben Island, off Cape Town in South Africa, for his political activism during the apartheid era.
Today marks the third official Nelson Mandela International Day. On, November 10, 2009 the United Nations officially adopted this day as a day of celebrating his life. All this began after the successful 90th day birthday celebrations of Nelson Mandela in London’s Hyde Park in June 2008.
The mission is simple, is to celebrate a man who dedicated most of his life, towards humanity, 67 to be exact. In the past, this day has been celebrated with lots of pompadour, and glamour. This year is chill, and all the organizers ask is that you dedicate 67 minutes to a charity of your choice. Check, the videos below for some inspiration and entertainment.
2009: Radio City Music Hall- [This had to be THE most powerful performance I’ve ever seen]
Please share this with folks, and remind them that life is all about making positive impacts. Cheers!
